This is program #3 for E CITY and Lincoln West!  Thank you, Rodney Decipeda, for adding the entrepreneurship program to your schedule once again.  Rodney’s E CITY class has been meeting during the last class period of the school day since January.

The business plan competition and graduation was held on Thursday, May 18 at 5:30 p.m. at the Carnegie Library, at 1900 Fulton Road

2004-2005 School Year

Rodney Decipeda stepped up to lead this program again!  This was his third E CITY class, following on the heels of a summer BizCamp.  With each program Rodney teaches, his passion increases and his innovative contributions to the entrepreneurship curriculum do too.    He attended NFTE’s advanced teacher training and was excited to implement the new techniques he learned!

Fall 200 finalist and judges
To capture student interest, during the first week of class Rodney divided the students into teams, took them on a field trip to the grocery store, and gave them money to purchase Rice Krispie Treats supplies.  Each team then made and sold the Treats and were challenged to see which team could make the most profit.  The buzz around the school created such energy that several new students expressed interest in joining the E CITY class!
Principal Valentina Mickey was thrilled to have the E CITY program back in her school this fall.  “The reality of this program has exceeded expectations,” she said at the competition.  “It is amazing to see these students presenting and using business terms.  Not everyone is called to the same occupations, and this program is a nice balance…” she added.
We thank the following volunteer “coaches” from our community who helped the students get their business plans polished up and into PowerPoint format:
Sharon Baker Anita Maines
Ron Copfer Andy McCartney
Brian Drobnick Pat Prout
Kristen Woolf
Special thanks to these volunteers who served as “judges” at the business plan competition:
Jim Hatton Sudhir Raghupathy
Catrina Latten Gayle Smith

Lincoln West Students at the Brown's Stadium
Rodney Decipeda, teacher at Lincoln West and a CET  (Certified Entrepreneurship Teacher), taught this first E CITY program at Lincoln West.  The class met 5 days a week during the last period of the day and for an hour after school Monday through Thursday.  The average attendance was 93%!  The average pre/post-test score increase was 41%.  During the program the students were introduced to a personal finance game called
Cash Flow, ideveloped by Robert T. Kiyosaki, author of Rich Dad, Poor Dad.  The students enjoyed the game so much they decided to meet through the spring semester of 2004 to continue playing it.

The following students were awarded prizes at the culminating business plan competition:

Two 2nd place winners of $100 each – Paula Adegbite and A’Lia Miller
