Several businesses opened their doors to the students, and offered explanations of their business operations. Students also toured Malley’s Chocolates and went wholesale shopping at Sam's Club and the Flower Factory. Guest speakers included, Mr. Brown, an entrepreneur who started a number of different companies, Mr. Z, and Kurt Zitzner, who is in the process of opening a new restaurant in Kent, Ohio. |
|

Ten students participated in the program, which was taught by Alisa Smedley. The students were all participants in the Youth Employment Program and other programs offered by LMM. They also went to BJ’s Wholesale Club to shop for items for their own businesses. Six students presented their business ideas to a panel of judges at a business plan competition on March 24. E CITY and Lutheran Metropolitan Ministry partnered again this summer to run a BizCamp from July 6-16. This entrepreneurship camp was taught by Rodney Decipeda, an E CITY instructor and teacher at Lincoln West High School. Alisa Smedley, who also plans to attend NFTE teacher training program this August, assisted Rodney throughout the two-weeks. On the first day of class the students set-up a lemonade stand in front of Transfiguration Church located at 8614 Euclid Avenue. They quickly learned the importance of determining their economics of one unit and their pricing strategy. They also took field trips to Tim Lally Chevrolet and National CITY Bank. Four students completed the program and presented their business plans to a panel of judges on July 16 |
