E CITY Graduates are “Slippin’ on Supplies”
They call it “S.O.S.” for short. It was the first business to grow out of the E CITY alumni class, “Real World: Fast Track to Economic Freedom.” The class began meeting last April, under the guidance of E CITY founder, John Zitzner, volunteer, Ken Leventhal and E CITY teacher, Rodney Decipeda (Lincoln West High School).

The class was comprised of ten graduates of different E CITY entrepreneurship programs. They committed to meeting weekly at E CITY’s offices, with the intention of starting a business jointly. They jumped eagerly into a needs and opportunity analysis and ultimately agreed upon starting a school supply store at SuccessTech Academy. Their hope is to replicate the business in all of the high schools in the district.
“Slippin’ on Supplies” was open daily- before school, after school and in between classes. The store carried school supplies during the day, snack foods, candy, ice cream and, Slushees, after school. Thank you, Anter Bros., for the donation of a Slushee machine! The students recognized a need and added coffee service to the S.O.S store, much to the delight of the teachers. Before long, a frequent buyer incentive system was developed and truly promoted both teamwork and negotiation between teachers and students. We look forward to the fall, when S.O.S. will reopen under the leadership of SuccessTech/E CITY teacher, Steven Bennett
